The Groom's Story
Finding the One
After I dated Kiera in high school, it was several years that I didn't have a girl friend, nor was I interested due to a busy and hectic schedule. After 5 years of not dating, and not really talking to Kiera, she sent me a message asking if she could add me to her Facebook profile as a friend. I thought it would just be another friend on facebook that I would never talk to, but that quickly changed.
The next night, we talked on AOL Instant Messenger for a couple of hours, then again the next day. After a couple of days on AOL, we swapped cell phone numbers (the butterflies were flying then). Without talking to her for several years, I thought it would be difficult to hold a conversation, but it was fine and enjoyable talking to her again. After a week of talking on the phone and AOL, I had plans to come home; at the time I didn't realize it would be Kiera's birthday (January 22), but God has a way of working things out.
I came home for my weekend visit, and Kiera and I go to Steak & Shake in Chillicothe for dinner. We had already discussed what our plans were when we got together and agreed that we would go to dinner, then drive around and look at the stars. After talking for an hour and half at Steak & Shake we drove out to the middle of no where, sat and talked while looking up at the stars. After a couple hours of freezing and looking up at the sky, we went back to her family's farm house. We laid down on some old trailer and watched the stars, laughed, talked, and almost kissed for hours. Then I went in and kissed her cheek. It was one of the most amazing feelings as I kissed her- wonderful and fearful; not knowing how she would respond and hoping that I wouldn't get slapped or yelled at. Then she moved her head slightly and I kissed the side of her mouth, again she moved her head a little more and kissed her on the lips. After kissing her for a little while I took her home and we parted ways and I knew that we had something together.
After a couple of her visits coming up to Toledo, and me just being me (except the first weekend, I tried showing off). I knew that if she could put up with me for days at a time, and be willing to drive 180 miles to see me, that she was the one.
After she came up 2 consecutive weekends I was ready to buy the ring. I had never felt so strongly for someone and knew I wanted to be with her. After only a few months of dating, I asked her dad if I could marry her, and we had some great discussions, and ended up him saying yes.
